Press release: over 1kg of cannabis seized by Customs

Following a record breaking year for the Maltese Customs Department fight against narcotics, Customs Officials started the year by making the first drug seizure.

Yesterday, a Nigerian national arriving from Treviso was screened by Customs Enforcement officials stationed at the airport. Her belongings were flagged after going through the xray machine and subsequently searched. Following the search five plastic wrapped packets were elevated, which the passenger claimed to be dried fish. Upon opening the packets and performing a narcotics field test it resulted that the contents were marijuana.
The drugs weighed a total of 1.1kg. The Police Anti-Drug Squad was duly informed and the passenger placed under arrest pending investigations. It is expected that the passenger will be arraigned in court today.
