Attn: All Economic Operators : Reduced VAT rate on face masks and face shields

A legal notice to slash the VAT rate on face masks and face shields to 5 per cent has now been published.  To this effect, importer and/or their customs clearing agents submitting an import declaration in the National Import System (NIS) are being requested to declare at Goods item level in the Additional Information tab;  
‘Type’ - MT_AC_VAT – National Additional Code’ AND ‘Value’ - X002, as per screenshot below. 

   Reduced VAT rate on face masks and face shields

This VAT reduction concerns ONLY commercial importations.  Therefore, duty and VAT relief on products imported by or on behalf of  State organisations, charitable or philanthropic organisations as per notice disseminated and uploaded to the Customs portal still remains in force.
