Press Release: 200,000 contraband cigarettes seized by Customs during raid
Customs Officials from the Enforcement Section have today, discovered 200,000 contraband cigarettes following a raid on a property in Safi.
The discovery came after months of surveillance work, with a garage in Safi being the centre of their attention. This morning the Enforcement Section, accompanied by the Police, decided to move in onto the property and inspect its contents. 1,000 cartons of cigarettes (each containing 200 cigarettes). The total amounted dues being defrauded on these cigarettes amounts to over 46,000euros.
The cigarettes were seized pending investigations by the Police Department.
The Department encourages members of the public to report anonymously any contraband activity on 25685124.
