Earlier this morning, one of the Customs’ Canine accurately indicated to Customs Officials that a large sum of money was present on a passenger’s belongings.
During passenger screenings on a flight departing to Istanbul, Turkey, joint efforts from the Customs Canine Unit and the Customs AMLT section led to the inspection of an Eritrean national belongings, after a trusty canine indicated that a large sum of cash was present. Said inspection led to the discovery of 17,195 Euro concealed in the hand luggage of the same passenger.
As per national legislation, any cash, or signed cheques, valued €10,000 or more, are to be declared to Customs when traveling to, through and from Malta. This is also applicable to all other EU countries.
