Malta Customs secures two training programmes for Customs employees under the WCO’s Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) programme

Malta Customs secured two training courses, under the World Customs Organisation’s Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) programme.

The WCO will be carrying out these two national training courses for the Customs administration of Malta in the field of Strategic Trade Control. The training programme will aim at strengthening our national capabilities in preventing illicit trafficking and smuggling of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) and related items. Both sessions are planned to be held from the 5th to the 8th April 2022 and from the 11th to the 14th April 2022 consecutively.

25 officers will participate in each training session and all costs related to this initiative will be borne by the WCO.

The WCO has been running the Strategic Trade Control Enforcement (STCE) programme since 2016. The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) calls upon all UN Member States to apply effective controls over trade of commodities with a potential to be used in the development, manufacture, and use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and their delivery systems. The STCE programme is a capacity building initiative enabling Customs agencies globally to effectively address the scourge of proliferation of WMD.
