Customs Malta intercepts €44,880 in undeclared cash at the MIA and Ferry Terminal

A total of €22,590 in undeclared cash were intercepted by Charlie the Customs Canine at the MIA departures lounge.

Charlie made a positive reaction towards two Moroccan passengers travelling to Turkey and Morocco. The Moroccan passenger travelling to Turkey was found to be carrying a total of €11,690 in undeclared cash, whereas the other man, who was en-route to Morocco, was found to be carrying €10,900 in undeclared cash.

Another €22,290 in undeclared cash were intercepted by Customs Officials at the ferry terminal. Two Maltese passengers travelling to Sicily were stopped during a random currency check. The men were found to be carrying €11,145 each in undeclared cash.

All 4 passengers were offered an out-of-court settlement to which they agreed to and signed and were administered a fine.
