Customs Malta intercepted €26,965 in undeclared cash at the non-Schengen departures lounge, at the MIA.

A man and woman were thoroughly searched after Customs Canine Gypsy gave a positive reaction towards the passengers.

The Israeli couple were en-route to Turkey when they were asked to declare how much money they were carrying to which they replied $18,000 (€16,490.73).

However, a thorough search led to the discovery of money pertaining to different foreign currencies which when converted amounted to a total of €26,965 in undeclared cash.

The couple were offered an out-of-court settlement to which they agreed to and signed and were administered a fine.
