In its continuous fight against moneylaundering, Customs Malta intercepted a total of €48,750 in undeclared cash at the Malta International Airport.
Two Syrian passengers en-route to Lebanon were stopped and asked to declare how much cash they were carrying after Customs Canine Sophie gave a positive reaction towards them.
Both passengers were searched and €10,419 and €38,331 were found concealed in their respective carry-on bags.
The passenger carrying €10,419 in undeclared cash was offered an out-of-court settlement to which he agreed to and signed, whereas the police were duly informed about the passenger carrying €38,331, who was subsequently arrested. An investigation into the latter case was launched.
