The uploading of all supporting documents to the import and export declarations for full load and groupage consignments in the National Import and Export System (NIES).
The processing of these documents will no longer be accepted at the Customer Services Unit in Valletta or the Verification Unit in Luqa. When a declaration of full load container is selected for documentary check, Customs Officers stationed at the Verification Unit would carry the check as soon as the Economic Operator sends an email to this office ([email protected]) with the Local Reference Number (LRN). Where original documents (e.g. EUR1, ATR certificate, import licence) are required, the economic operator will be contacted to present them in person to this office. The Customer Services Unit, the Customs Special Procedures Unit and the Customs Verification Unit have now moved all of its processes from manual to electronic. As from Wednesday, 1st April, these offices will attend economic operators in person for special circumstances only and by appointment.
