Total number of packages based on the smallest external packing unit. This is the number of individual items packaged in such a way that they cannot be divided without first undoing the packing, or the number of pieces, if unpackaged.
Above technical rule allows the user to declare a ‘0’ value in this field. For example the exporter is exporting one package and in this package there are three items with different commodity codes. The declarant will declare three items for this package and in the Number of packages field for item 1 enters ‘1’ as a value and ‘0’ value in items 2 and 3. However, the value in the Marks and numbers field has to be identical since one package is being declared.
